At the Batho-Pele Foundation, we believe that charity drives are a vital way to make a positive impact in our community. By organizing charity drives, we can collect essential items and funds that support those in need, from food and clothing to medical supplies and educational materials. These drives not only help those who are struggling but also foster a sense of community and compassion among our members. By being charitable, we demonstrate our commitment to the well-being of others and show that we care about the welfare of those around us.“Mercies Bible Church – run by Apostle Musa A. Mavimbela” have been actively involved in our charity drive and we were able to provide those in need with clothes and other donated items.
Food Security & Nutrition
“No one should go to bed hungry.”
Food insecurity remains a major challenge in many South African communities. We are committed to feeding the hungry, reducing malnutrition, and promoting food self-sufficiency through our food distribution and gardening initiatives.
Our Key Initiatives:
✅ Daily Meal Distribution: Hot, nutritious meals served 3-4 times a week at our Dobsonville kitchen.
✅ Food Hamper Program: More than 1,000+ food parcels distributed to struggling families in 2024 alone.
✅ SASSA Elderly Feeding Program: Providing warm meals once a month at pension pay points, ensuring that our elderly community members receive nourishment and support.
✅ Homestead Food Gardening: Training individuals to grow their own food, reducing dependency on food aid.
Youth Empowerment & Life Skills

The future of our country depends on strong, educated, and empowered youth. Our youth programs focus on life skills, leadership development, and positive mindset training, helping young people unlock their potential.
Our Youth Programs:
✅ Life Skills through Sports: Using soccer, athletics, and group activities to teach teamwork, discipline, and goal-setting.
✅ Affirmations Championship: A competition between local high schools that helps students develop a positive mindset, self-confidence, and motivation for success.

Environmental Sustainability & Community Development

- We partner with schools and families to teach them how to grow their own food.
- Schools like Thathezakho and Thabang Primary Schools have adopted our gardening program, benefiting hundreds of students.
✅ Climate-Smart Gardening Training:
- Partnering with Sibayeni Metrofarming and Johannesburg City Parks, we educate community members on eco-friendly farming and square-foot gardening techniques.
✅ Community Clean-Up Campaigns:
- Working with Pikitup, the Department of Environmental Affairs, and Dobsonville Councillors, we host regular clean-ups to maintain a healthier and more sustainable living environment.
Skills Development & Training

We believe that the key to breaking the cycle of poverty is equipping individuals with practical skills that open doors to employment and entrepreneurship.

- In partnership with Jo’burg Child Welfare, we offer basic communication and counseling skills to community members, helping them navigate personal and social challenges.
✅ Job Readiness & Professional Training:
- We offer resume-building workshops, interview skills training, and career guidance for unemployed youth and adults.
✅ Vocational & Entrepreneurial Training:
- We empower community members with skills in urban farming, waste management, and small business development, helping them become financially independent.
